Sunflowers Make Me Happy

One of my favorite flowers is the sunflower.  They just make me happy and smile.  I have no idea why but they do.   I've been lucky to have the opportunity to visit Kricklewood Farm just outside of Smith Falls to take pictures of their beautiful sunflower fields for the past few years. Not only did we get to photograph the sunflower fields put got to visit the barnyard and take some pictures of cute and funny characters that call Kricklewood Farm home including a rescue pig that came to the farm with his own crate, blanket and toys.  He's ditched those now and is now just one of the pigs on the farm.  Check out Kricklewood Farm so see some of the great things they produce.  They are at local markets in the area selling their great farm fresh items..

Tulip Festival 2015

Living in Ottawa is great.  It doesn't matter what time of year it is, there is always something to see, do and photograph.  In May, we  have Tulip Festival, where 1000's of tulip bulbs are planted and where tens of 1000's people come from all over to view this beautiful site.  Here are a few of my photographs from the 2015 Tulip Festival.  Enjoy!!

Macro Photography Anybody?

I had a great opportunity over the past few weeks to participate in a Macro Photography Course offered by Harry Nowell. The instructor for this course was Louise Tanguay who is a fabulous local photographer who takes the most amazing photographs. Check out her website at

Louise offered some great tips and techniques and a different way to look at subjects when getting in so close.  One great tip....get close, then closer and then get even closer.  Our first day of shooting was at the Ornamental Gardens at the Experimental Park.  So many flowers, plants, shurbs and bugs..oh, my.  Our second day of shooting we spent time photographing in studio.  Louise brought in all sorts of different plants and flowers for us to work with.  I picked the dried flowers.

After photographing some more flowers I was starting to need a change so Louise suggested going outside and photographing in natural light with a vase of water and strawberries.  I got some wonderful photographs with her suggestions.

I plan on doing alot more Macro Photography as our garden grow and changes during the season.  Hoping to get some more amazing photographs.  Thanks for a great class Louise.

My Own Backyard

Before leaving to do groceries this morning, I had time to admire our garden.  I can't take any credit for it as I have NO gardening abilities what so ever.  All the hard work and credit goes to my mom.  When we first built our house, we had a landscape designer come and give us the plans and we did the work ourselves.  Just last year, we finally finished the backyard landscaping and here are some of the results of mom's hard work.  The Lily's recently added to the garden are so beautiful and they smell amazing.  Thanks Mom!!!!

Pretty Flowers in Almonte

A few people from my photography group got together on Saturday and went to Whitehouse Perennials just outside of Almonte.  They had the most amazing set up with the most beautiful flowers.  It was so great, we're going back again in a few weeks to take some more photos.
